On Sunday 17th May 2026, Longley Farm was proud to host the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs County Dairy Judging Finals.
It was a pleasure to welcome members from across Yorkshire to the farm for this annual competition, where competitors had the opportunity to demonstrate and develop their dairy stock judging skills. We were delighted to hear such positive feedback regarding both the quality of the livestock and the facilities on the day.
The event also saw a number of new junior members taking part, which was fantastic to see and highlights the continued enthusiasm for the future of the dairy industry and young farming community.
Following the competition, Farm Manager Paul provided members with a guided tour of the farm, giving visitors an insight into the day-to-day operations at Longley Farm and the work that goes into maintaining our dairy herd and production facilities.
We would like to thank the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs for choosing Longley Farm as the venue for this year’s finals and congratulate all competitors who took part. We wish the successful finalists the very best of luck at the National Finals during the Great Yorkshire Show in July.
It was a privilege to support such a well-organised and enjoyable event, and we look forward to welcoming similar opportunities in the future.

Tyers Hall Farm Hosts Successful Northern Area Herd Competition Event
It All Begins Here
Tyers Hall Farm was proud to welcome farmers, judges, and industry representatives for the Northern Area presentations of the annual Herd Competition. The event brought together a wide range of dairy producers to recognise excellence in herd management, animal welfare, and overall farm performance.
The day began with a guided farm walk, giving visitors the opportunity to see the Tyers Hall operation first hand. Attendees were shown around the facilities and provided with an overview of the farm’s approach to herd health, housing, grazing, and youngstock management. Particular interest was shown in the practical systems in place to support animal welfare, including efficient housing design, attention to cow comfort, and measures to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
Judges commented positively on the high standards demonstrated across the competing farms. Despite the challenges posed by recent weather conditions and varying ground quality, the overall standard of cattle and herd management was described as extremely impressive. Many herds showed clear signs of long-term improvement, reflecting the commitment and dedication of breeders to continuous development and best practice.
The presentations highlighted the importance of attention to detail in areas such as nutrition, breeding, health monitoring, and youngstock rearing. There was also recognition of how modern technology and good management processes are helping farmers identify issues early and maintain strong herd performance.
The event concluded with the announcement of the Northern Area results across multiple classes, celebrating achievements ranging from large and small herds to individual animal categories.
As well as recognising success, the day provided a valuable opportunity for knowledge sharing, discussion, and networking within the farming community. The event was widely praised as both informative and enjoyable, reflecting the strong spirit of collaboration and the high standards being achieved across the region’s dairy industry.
